THE DIFFERENCE AMONG THE PAST, HISTORY, AND HISTORIOGRAPHY

leedurhamstone4

● The past is what happened before now.

History is the reconstruction and interpretation of the past using extant objects and documents.

Historiography is the study of the reconstruction and interpretation of the past; in other words, it is the study of how history has been written and thought about over time.

The past has passed, history is still with us, and historiography is how it is written.
